Best highway cruiser under $40k.
Suggestions, look for a powerful/reliable ride comfortable enough to spend hours in without fatigue without lulling you to sleep.

Dodge Challenger SRT8 Core, base MSRP $39,485. That'll probably change when it gets the Hellcat engine, but if 470 hp 470 lb-ft lulls you to sleep you probably need medical attention.

VW CC with the 2 liter turbo. Mine will do 80 mph all day long and accelerate up to 90-95 with ease. Comfy seats, nice interior, 30 mpg at 80 mph. And it's handsome...

You didn't say how old (or new) so the answer is obvious.

Like previously mentioned, Challenger. Get a higher-end R/T, and use it till the 2015 comes out, then use dodge's promotion to get a '15 R/T that you can keep for a while!

Only recommendation change from me is to go with the Charger. For road trips four doors is better I find. No fighting to get out of the back.

I just picked up a decked out CPO 335D for well under $30k. Great ride, 265hp 425 lb-ft and over 36mpg highway.
